Tulum Travel Guide
TULUM: an ultra-chic, Instagram worthy, jungle-meets-beach town with little WiFi, delicious food and great vibes. Both times I went to Tulum were on bachelorette parties.
To Stay.
Be Tulum: Wish I stayed here! Both times, I stayed in AIRBNBs. If I went back, I’d stay here! Be Tulum is a luxury lifestyle Hotel Spa & Private Villas inspired by the rustic charm and raw natural beauty of the Mayan Riviera. The restaurant at the property is also incredible
La Zebra: Trendy beachfront hotel. Known as one of the best “beach chic” properties in Tulum.
Papaya Playa Project: See and be seen at Papaya Playa Project. This hip property has the best of it all- luxury accommodations, a DJ/party scene and great vibes. The hotel is a bit far from the main town area.
Azulik: Go here for a true escape from reality. Each row is situated in a tree house. There is no wifi and no lights. The property is full of Instagram worth backdrops. if you don’t stay here, I recommend going to experience the property.
Habitas: An oceanfront property in a wilderness that's as wild as it is tamed and welcoming. A haven that integrates us into the natural environment. I didn’t go here, but looks oh so chic… and totally wishing I did!
To Eat.
Vespertina: The most delicious cocktails of ALL time. Plant-based Cuisine and Botanical Bar. The drinks and food focus on food as functional medicine, plus there is no dairy or refined sugar. Don’t miss this! I would go before dinner for a drink. The vibe of the space is also so cute.
Real Coconut: The most delicious breakfast, ever. Sanará’s beach restaurant The Real Coconut is dedicated to all that is conscious living and follows our foundational health & wellness philosophy that plants form the key to our vitality and that gut health and digestion are paramount to optimum well being. Everything is made with coconut flour. Don’t miss this spot!!!
Gitano: The vibes, atmosphere and food at Gitano are all incredible. Diners linger under the glow of hundreds of fairy lights dangling from the trees as house music thumps. Go on a Friday night, so you can stay for the party after. The later dinner reservation you can secure, the better… this way you won’t be waiting around for the party to start.
Casa Jaguar – Great restaurant with amazing vibes. Go on a Thursday, so you can stay for their Thursday night party!
Matcha Mama: Delicious matcha, smoothies, bowls, açaí, CBD gummies, kombuchas and more! The small, cute, instagram worthy spot has swings as seats. I would definitely recommend stopping by pre or post beach.
Hartwood: Don’t let the rustic setting fool you—a table is the most sought-after dinner spot in Tulum.

Antojitos La Chiapaneca: One of the best-loved taco places in downtown Tulum
El Camello Jr.: Go for ceviche
La Popular: The beachside La Popular, one of two restaurants at the Nomade hotel
Posada Margherita Restaurant: Intimate, open-walled Italian restaurant forgoes menus and sticks with a consistent rotation
Restaurant at Zamas: Overlooks a small peninsula and has a wood-burning oven and fully stocked mezcal bar

Papaya Playa Project: Saturday Night party at Papaya Playa Project is one of my absolute favorite parties (ever). It’s an outdoor club situated on the beach. Face painting, frolicking, drinking, dancing…. need I say more?
Boat Tour: Because… is it really an island vacation if you don’t go on a boat tour?
Cenotes: We didn’t go, but they look beyond incredible. Avoid the tourist trap thought, and ask to go to the less known cenotes.

IMPORTANT NOTES:
If you’re staying at an AIRBNB, please get a security guard. Crime has been high recently and I’ve personally spoken to many people who were staying at AIRBNBs who were robbed. Both parties of girls and guys. Especially ones on bachelor and bachelorette parties. Please lock up your belongings and get security from 8PM-7AM.
Pesos are the main currency used although most places will accept credit cards + USD
The most reliable bank in town for getting money is Scotiabank — ATMs by the beach are not known to be reliable and are ripe with fraud
Don’t drink the tap water! Recommend bringing some sort of stomach medicine in case you get sick.
There is no Uber in Tulum but taxis are plentiful and easy to flag down
Bring bug spray!
If you have work to do… bring a portable Wifi hot spot!
…. and heels are not necessary! You’ll want to walk around the town at night. The town is a dirt road and no one wears heels. Small 1 inch chunky heels are fine!
